Temari for Elena

My 2nd temari ball.

Made with a styrofoam ball (with the center removed so that a bell and a wish can be placed within), wrapped in layers of yarn, wrapped in layers of thread, which are then embroidered on.

Apparently this originated with mothers giving these balls, which were then made out of old kimono scraps and whatever else was around, to their children as toys. Some places said they were new years gifts, and within them is a written wish meant for the person receiving it. That way they will never know what the wish is, unless they destroy the ball (which would most likely not happen). And now they are given as gifts of friendship or love.

This is based off of a pattern found in Barbara Suess' book, "Japanese Temari", I have only changed the colors.
